The March 2008 issue of the Birdlife Botswana newsletter, now with a new title, Birds and People, has arrived in HOORC's Library. The contents include articles about the new Lesser Flamingo breeding site in South Africa, an investigation of the possible effect on birds of the recent lion trophy hunting ban, alerts for migrating kestrels and Blue Cranes, common bird monitoring, the Checklist of Birds of the World and the photo of the month, Victor Horatius' picture of a Greater Painted-Snipe performing a threat display. Also arrived is the January 2008 issue of the Birdlife Botswana journal, The Babbler, with several articles featuring the Okavango Delta region: Waterbird counts in July 2006 and 2007, The Spectacled Weaver in the Okavango and Fiscal shrike and nesting Ayres' Hawk Eagle in Maun. And Birdlife Botswana's new Bird activity book : an environmental education (EE) resource for teachers and other EE practioners by Doreen McColaugh is a useful addition to HOORC's collection of environmental education materials.
