Intangible heritage site

HOORC cultural tourism researcher Dr Susan Keitumetse has alerted us to the UNESCO site for intangible heritage, with information about appreciation of the function and values of cultural expressions and practices -- oral traditions, dances, and artistic expressions, for example -- that represent the cultural equivalent of biodiversity. The 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage has been ratified by 68 countries and the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage was held on 18 and 19 November 2006 in Algiers, Algeria. The site links to The Intangible Heritage Messenger, an online newsletter. In HOORC's Library you can find Is the sacred for sale? : tourism and indigenous peoples by Alison M. Johnston.
