Development Practice in Eastern and Southern Africa: Lived Experiences from the Trenches

The book titled above has been launched today. One of the book editors Oluwatoyin Dare Kolawole is a Professor of rural development in ORI. 

The book is authored by six editors, and captures 21 experiences from development experts on the “Development Practice in Eastern and Southern Africa”.

University of Botswana 2022 Roadshows

As a way of taking the university to the people, the University of Botswana will be in Maun on the 24 & 25 of March 2022. During the two days the university will be marketing its products and services to potential students  in Maun.

Potential students are therefore encouraged to visit the UB stalls to apply for admission. The application process will be done at Maun Secondary School.

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The COVID-19, which started in china in December 2019, continues to spread across the world , with our neighboring country of  South Africa, experiencing an increase in COVID-19 positive cases.

 Even though, Botswana has not detected any virus, it is very important that the people are informed about the virus, as well as rescheduling visits to affected countries to help stop the spread of the virus. The Government of Botswana has implemented screens at ports of entry in response to the global public health threat posed by COVID-19. The government has also  implemented a temporary ban on international travel and receiving guests from outside the country.

The University of Botswana has advised its community to take the following  precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus:

• Washing  hands as often as possible with soap for at least 20 seconds 
• Use an alcohol based sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwanted hands
• Avoid contact with other people when experiencing cough and fever
• Seek medical attention as early as possible,if you have cough , fever or experiencing difficulty breathing.

 Individuals who demonstrate specific symptoms related to COVID-19 should call their health care provider or the Ministry of Health and Wellness  Emergency Operations line at 363-2273/2756/2757 for further instructions.

International Renewable Energy Conference - Call for Papers

The International Renewable Energy Conference is a consequence of research on "Southern African Sustainable Energy Initiative" funded by the ACP-EU Cooperation program and being collaboratively undertaken by three Southern African partner universities - the University of Botswana, National University of Lesotho, Namibia University of Science and Technology and the Hochschule Darmstadt University which is based in Germany.

 The overall objective of the research is to enhance the institutional, human and systems development capacity of the consortium of regional universities in the area of renewable energy and energy efficiency. The specific objectives of the conference are:

i. To provide a regional platform for knowledge sharing, and thereby integrate and co-ordinate initiatives in the field of sustainable energy

ii. To provide an innovative services and product platform that will raise awareness and provide sound research support to a broad range of stakeholders in view of ensuring participation and ownership of interventions and implementation.

Following a big success of the International Renewable Energy Symposium held in Windhoek in October 2015, the University of Botswana, through its Centre for Clean Energy housed in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, will host the first International Renewable Energy Conference in Botswana from 26th to 28th October 2016 at GICC. The conference theme is "Renewable Energy Applications for Sustainable Development".

You are invited to submit papers to the following topics:

3. Trends and developments in Energy Efficiency and Technology

UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION - EXTENDED

Prospective applicants who seek admission into undergraduate study programmes at University of Botswana (UB) in August 2016 are informed that the application period has been extended to 15^th April 2016, therefore they may continue submitting their applications on‑line until the end of the application period. Former students who previously withdrew or discontinued or have been away from the university for at least one semester but not more than 10 semesters may also apply to enrol in August 2016. Applications are also open to those who wish to transfer from their current institutions to UB.

On-line Application:

University of Botswana has an on-line application system whereby prospective applicants can apply on-line wherever they are. All prospective applicants are therefore expected to make their applications on‑line through the ‘’Study AT UB” link on the University of Botswana website: www.ub.bw.
