Even though, Botswana has not detected any virus, it is very important that the people are informed about the virus, as well as rescheduling visits to affected countries to help stop the spread of the virus. The Government of Botswana has implemented screens at ports of entry in response to the global public health threat posed by COVID-19. The government has also implemented a temporary ban on international travel and receiving guests from outside the country.
The University of Botswana has advised its community to take the following precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus:
- Washing hands as often as possible with soap for at least 20 seconds
- Use an alcohol based sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwanted hands
- Avoid contact with other people when experiencing cough and fever
- Seek medical attention as early as possible,if you have cough , fever or experiencing difficulty breathing.
Individuals who demonstrate specific symptoms related to COVID-19 should call their health care provider or the Ministry of Health and Wellness Emergency Operations line at 363-2273/2756/2757 for further instructions.
