Staff members from the
University of Pennysylvania, one being the Associate Director, Information Services, (Biomedical Library) visited
HOORC Library today. They were especially keen to look at the digitisation project in the Library, the outreach and social responsibility activities undertaken by the Library and the development of the University of Botswana Institutional Repository. Since their interest lies in health information, one is involved in promoting the use of Short Message System (SMS) to request information from Pubmed in Botswana as part of the UPenn/UB partnership. He added that this initiative is also being promoted in the Phillipines and parts of India. Their tour was rounded of by a visit to the Pete Smith herbarium collection and the GIS laboratory for the
