Climate change, forests and wetlands
ELDIS has alerted us to a paper that summarises the importance of wetlands in relation to climate change and examines their potential role in the measures for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) under the Kyoto Protocol. Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in developing countries (REDD) - the link with wetlands, published by the Foundation for International Environmental Law and Development, concludes that there is significant scope for synergy and mutual reinforcement of REDD proposals and other international conventions such as the Ramsar Convention and the Convention on Biodiversity. You can find the full text of the report online.
