New Botswana research permit procedures

The Government of Botswana has issued a new agreement that will govern issuing of permits for research in Botswana’s protected areas. The Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism suspended issuing permits for the conduct of environmental and natural resource (fauna and flora) research to look at improving the monitoring and general administration of its tracking of research, with specific interest in independent researchers. The new agreement includes reporting protocols, and guidelines on the use of technology and methods such as radio telemetry, calling stations, baiting and capture of wild animals and collection of plants and animal specimens. The new procedures also include the requirement for a supplementary research permit that provides details about activities to be carried out within protected areas. You can find the agreement in HOORC’s Library.
