Guide to participatory tools for forest communities
The ELDIS site alerted us to a useful publication for participatory forest management: the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR)'s Toolkit for working towards sustainable forest management together with forest communities. The full text of the publication is available on CIFOR's web site. Meanwhile, at the climate change conference in Nairobi, Botswana supported an application by the Congo Basin rain forest countries to have deforestation adopted as a cause of climate change in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)and Kyoto Protocol. In early October, the Government of Botswana signed the first Tropical Forest Conservation Act (TFCA) agreements concluded in Africa with the United States.
