Okavango River Basin at World Water Week

The Okavango River Basin will be featured at a seminar during World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden, August 23rd 2006. The OKACOM Interim Secretariat, Okavango Delta Management Plan Project Secretariat, IUCN-World Conservation Union and Every River has its People Project are convening the meeting to stimulate discussion about possible joint projects, knowledge sharing, communication strategies and learning exercises for the countries in the Basin. The Okavango River flows across the borders of Angola, Namibia and Botswana. Each has comparative advantages in capacity, resources, knowledge, or geography and none can unilaterally develop water – for power, agriculture, or domestic use – without affecting upstream or downstream neighbours. Professor Lars Ramberg, Director of HOORC, will be participating in the seminar. For more information, contact okacom_iss@irbm.co.bw, psegomelo@gov.bw or ase.johannessen@iucn.org.
