World Day for Water
March 22nd is World Water Day. 2006 celebrations are guided by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) under the theme 'Water and Culture', drawing attention to the fact that there are as many ways of viewing, using, and celebrating water as there are cultural traditions across the world. Thinking about the theme led us to the Peace Corps site, Water in Africa, an educational resource for secondary schools that focuses on water as a source of life and culture. The site provides standards, procedures, assessment techniques and enrichment activities for teachers. Another source of materials about water and culture is IDRC's Water Management in Islam, that looks at cultural perspectives on water management policies such as wastewater reuse and fair pricing.
