Parliamentary Committee visit to ORI

Yesterday the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Environment paid a visit to the Okavango Research Institute.Among the delegates were: Hon Maj. Gen. Moeng Pheto, MP, Hon. Habano, MP, Hon. R. Makosha, MP, and Hon. K. Molatlhegi, MP.Their visit was to familiarise themselves with the ORI programs and the transformation since its birth.They were given a brief history of ORI and its transformation by the ORI Director, Prof. Ringrose and Prof. Wolski gave a demonstration on the state of the Okavango Delta. Their major interests were to familiarise themselves with climate change issues and and its impact on the Okavango Delta. In addition, they wanted to know how ORI interacts with its stakeholders,and whether there can be training opportunities on climate change issues for the Members of Parliament here at ORI. On the issue of how they can help ORI, the following were some of the suggestions:
*To help with funding for monitoring
*Involving the Researchers on policy processes through informative consultancies
Their visit was rounded off by a tour to the the Science laboratories, the GIS laboratory, Pete Smith herbarium collection, the Library, and the tented camp.
