HOORC Seminar Series: Responsible Authorship

In yesterday's HOORC's seminar series , the Assistant Director for Ethics, Paul Ndebele's delivered a talk on responsible authorship. In his introduction, he talked about current trends in publishing pointing out the following:, that there is a growing trend in the number of authors per article, that impact factors and citation counts are becoming increasingly important , so is electronic publishing and new reviewing models. He also mentioned the current emphasis on research as encapsulated in the UB's research strategy document, in that there is more pressure to publish now. Other issues he touched on were authorship controversies, authorship and research integrity, uniform standards for authorship and guidelines for publications.
