Participatory tools for natural resource management

ELDIS has alerted us to A review of participatory tools for natural resource management by authors from the University of Zimbabwe, the Center for Integrated Area Studies, Kyoto University and CIFOR and published part of a special feature, Navigating Trade-offs: Working for Conservation and Development Outcomes, in the open access journal Ecology and Society in 2007.

The article provides a review of a selection of participatory tools designed to elicit knowledge, values, and preferences of communities in the analysis, synthesis, and decision making related to natural resource management and policy. The paper provides a brief description of each tool, an evaluation and comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of all the tools examined, and how well they can be adapted to diverse contexts. The full text of the article is available online.
