Sustainable development trends

UNPulse has alerted us to Trends in Sustainable Development 2008-2009, recently issued by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) Division for Sustainable Development. The report highlights recent trends in agriculture, rural development, land, desertification and drought, five of the six themes being considered by the Commission on Sustainable Development at its 16th and 17th sessions (2008-2009). Trends in Sustainable Development : Africa Report provides colourful graphs and charts to illustrate trends for the continent, including demography, development finance, natural resources and climate change.

The Division for Sustainable Development has also issued Innovation for Sustainable Development: Local Case Studies from Africa. This report sheds light on how innovative solutions at the local level address sustainable development challenges in Africa: example include Restoring Kafue Flats, Zambia: Preserving Biodiversity through Water Management, Bushbuck Ridge Project, South Africa: Working for Wetlands and two studies of Sustainable Tourism projects.
