The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)'s tourism site has announced a new publication, Tourism and Deserts: a Practical Guide to Managing the Social and Environmental Impacts in the Desert Recreation Sector. Prepared in partnership with the Tour Operators Initiative for Sustainable Development, the publication contains tips about desert driving, accommodation, and respect for local communities and cultures. A self-evaluation checklist for tourism operators is included on the UNEP site. The document can be viewed online or downloaded.
