UN Pulse has alerted us to the publication of the GEO (Global Environment Outlook) Year Book 2006, the United Nations Environment Programme’s third annual survey of the changing global environment. The book includes a section on Africa and one on indicators that illustrates global environmental trends, including water quality -- levels of nitrogen and BOD in rivers, lakes and groundwater, biodiversity -- ratio of area protected to maintain biological diversity to surface area MDG indicator, and global environmental governance – number of parties to multilateral environmental agreements.
