New in HOORC's Library: Termites and decomposition
Termite mound in the Maun Wildlife Park
HOORC's library has just received copies of Gregor Schuurman's study, Decomposition rates and termite assemblage composition in semiarid Africa published in 2005 in the journal Ecology. Schuurman's study results indicated that fungus-growing termites in the Okavango Delta play a significant role in decomposition in the areas studied. Understanding this process, Schuurman argues, can help in predicting the response of regional and global carbon and nutrient budgets to global change.
