For regions of the world where malaria remains rampant, contracting the
mosquito-borne parasite can still mean death. In order to help poor and
rural populations with limited access to health clinics avoid such an
outcome, researchers at Ohio State University are developing a 50-cent
paper strip that detects diseases such as malaria earlier on, allowing
people to seek treatment before the worst symptoms kick in.
