ODMP's Fishery Component

The seventh component of ODMP came was released with a main aim if ensuring sustainable use of the Okavango Delta's fish resource through other interventions, to take fish stock assessment through fish frame survey and to improve stakeholder participation in conflict resolution through the Okavango Fishermen Management Committee.The conflicts between the local community and the tour operators resulted when the community felt they were being denied the fish resources in the Okavango Delta by the tour operators. Through the intervention of the Biokavango Project,the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, Tribal Administration in Shakawe and the Department of Environmental Affairs, the two parties were reconcilled by being engaged in coming up with solutions they feel can best solve their differences.
