Field guide to the plants of Northern Botswana including the Okavango Delta, officially launched in Maun
Residents of Maun gathered yesterday evening to take part in the official launch of the book titled “Field guide to the plants of Northern Botswana including the Okavango Delta” by Alison and Rodger Heath, who worked a lot with the ORI staff, mainly the Herbarium and the Library. It was first launched on the 22nd September at Gaborone. The field guide consists of many plants and herbs in the Northern side of Botswana and their uses by the local people. The collected specimens are pressed for preservation, photographed and loaded into the database, and copies of the pressed specimens are then sent to the National museum who then worked in collaboration with the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew, to help the Heaths identify the specimen. Kew then took the task of editing the book before its final publishing. Among the invited guests was Dr. Tatianah, from Kew who was the Keynote Speaker as well.
