Large Herbivore Research Network
Wildlife researchers in Botswana recognise and acknowledge the need to establish a network that will enhance collaboration among researchers to ensure scientific progress and the effective management of the country’s wildlife. Against this background several researchers working on various aspects of large herbivore ecology met at HOORC in Maun on the 24/03/2006 and agreed to establish a Large Herbivore Research Network. The main objectives of the network are to i) facilitate co-operation and partnerships between local wildlife researchers and other research groups in the SADC region and the international community at large, ii) to facilitate transparent and effective dissemination and communication of research results, iii) to facilitate data sharing where possible, iv) to develop a strategic action plan for herbivore research. At the inception meeting, an interim coordinating committee comprising of Casper Bonyongo (Chairperson), Lucas Rutina (secretary), Harriet Bartlam (student researcher) and Chris Brooks (independent researcher) was elected.
